弁護士や医者になるための国家資格、Toeicなどの資格、さらには応募資格や『お前にその資格はない』など様々な場面で使われる資格という言葉。
英語に訳すとCertification もしくは Qualification となります。この２つの単語には、若干異なった意味があります。
certification と qualification の意味
Certification
・an official document that says that someone is allowed to do a certain job, that something is of good quality etc
『ある仕事を行うこと許可する、または十分な品質を持っていることを示す公式文章』
つまり、あることに対して十分な質、力量などを持っていると認可する、証明する公式な文章のことを言います。
学校の卒業証書や習い事やセミナーの修了証書が certification となります。

『弁護にしになるにはどんな認定が必要ですか？』
How to get ISO Certification.
『ISO認証取得の方法』
（ISO認証 企業に勤めている方であれば、聞いたことがあるかもしれません。）

多くの会社は英語の認定書を必要としますか？
（TOEIC 800点以上という条件を出す会社も増えてきましたね。）
Qualification
・You have passed an examination or course to show you have a particular level of skill or knowledge in a subject
『試験やコースに合格することで、特定のレベルのスキルや知識があることを示す』
・a skill, personal quality, or type of experience that makes you suitable for a particular job or position
『スキル、個人の質、経験が特定の仕事や職に適している』
つまり、スキルや知識、経験などが一定の条件を満たしていることを示します。
Certification は文章でしたが、Qualificaiton は、スキル、知識、経験そのものを指しています。
何かをするために必要となる能力やが qualification となります。。
